The Water Convention aims to promote the sustainable management of transboundary water resources through cooperation. The Convention, which was originally negotiated as a regional instrument, is open for accession by all UN Member States since March 2016.
The institutional framework of the Convention, made of the Meeting of the Parties and its subsidiary bodies and the secretariat, overview and support implementation of the Convention, in particular through a triennial programme of work defined through an intergovernmental process, involving also non-governmental stakeholders.
