The regional framework – Protocol on Water and Health – support countries in in the pan-European region in their efforts to ensure adequate supply of safe drinking water and adequate sanitation for everyone, and effectively protect water used as a source of drinking water.
Open for accession by countries in the pan-European region, the Protocol promote dialogue and the development of relevant policies, the exchange of experiences and good practices, and supporting implementation on the ground through work in specific countries – making it a powerful tool to promote the achievement of SDGs 3 and 6 in the region.
The Protocol is the first international agreement of its kind, and the secretariat functions are carried out jointly by UNECE and WHO/Europe.
