An urban water initiative

A research project titled The Water and Urban Initiative (WUI) uses simulation scenarios to study anticipated changes in climate, population and land use.

Focusing on cities in developing countries in Asia, WUI develops a set of interdisciplinary simulation models to evaluate urban flooding, water quality of urban rivers, and health risk caused by water-borne infectious diseases spread via flood water. The simulation scenarios also conducts an integrated economic evaluation of water quality as well as flood damage and health loss associated with urban flood.

  • Timeframe: 2014-2018
  • Organization: The research project is conducted by the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS)
