The understanding and mapping of the Human Rights to Water and Sanitation (HRWS) in a region, country or river basin can be used as a tool to help develop a National Action Plan to implement SDG6.
By identifying gaps in the existing governance structure and strategies, and hence target specific indicators this may help to disaggregate global data, and provide a road map to realise greater access, affordability, acceptability and safer water and sanitation. WaterLex mapping also addresses the principles of non-discrimination, participation, transparency of data, and accountability.
